Thursday morning’s scrimmage, the first of two before Lockhart High School’s regular season, will give some a chance to see what might be in store for the Lions this fall.
LHS will host the East View High Patriots from Georgetown beginning at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Lions Stadium.
LHS is hosting two fall scrimmages, including kickoff next Thursday (August 18) at 7 p.m. in Castroville against Medina Valley.
“We have the luxury of having two scrimmages this year because we haven’t had a spring game,” Lions head coach Todd Moebes said. “We will try to use the extra game for the reps that we didn’t have in May.”
Having just started official training last week, Moebes will use the first scrum as an assessment of individuals and his team in general.
“For me, it’s always been about making sure we’ve improved and are performing at a high level,” Moebes said of scrimmage matches. “We’re still trying to figure out who some of our key guys are. We evaluate the staff. It’s just evaluating our football team.
Some schools in Texas don’t practice until 8:30-9 p.m. due to the heat index. Moebes said his workouts start at 6 a.m.
The game is scheduled for the morning because neither school has lessons. However, Lockhart starts school on August 15.
