Lions quarterback Jared Goff partners with Give Merit’s Fate program to give back

DDetroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has teamed up with the Give Merit’s Fate program to create a capsule collection of apparel. All proceeds from JG16 X Fate will be donated to the program’s scholarship fund and matched dollar for dollar by Goff himself. The collection of hats, t-shirts and hoodies was featured on HBO Hard knocks: Training camp with the Detroit Lions fourth episode which debuted on August 30.

The Give Merit’s Fate program is a four-year initiative that provides project-based learning, character development, career exposure, and mentorship to Detroit youth. The program aims to combat the statistic that 1 in 4 of these young people will not graduate from high school. In addition to its confidence and career building skills, the initiative also offers a $5,000 scholarship to students who graduate from high school and meet the standards set by the program.

“This partnership with Jared Goff not only means the world for the mission we serve, but also for the action we challenge our students to perform daily,” say Fate Detroit co-founders Kuhu Saha and David Merritt. “Our students had the opportunity to work with Jared on the design of this collection, which will be something they will cherish and help them in their professional development.”

Goff, who was born and raised in California, was traded to the Detroit Lions by the Los Angeles Rams in January 2021, in exchange for Matt Stafford and a few draft picks. With big shoes to fill both on the field and in the community, Goff is up to the challenge.

“This cause and partnership is important to me because of my love for Detroit and the importance of fueling the future while providing young people with the access and opportunities they deserve,” Goff said. “I had the pleasure of working with four amazing Fate students, Aaron, Keylee, Kyla and Torion, and collaborating with graphic designer Skylar Holt to develop a special collection that speaks to our love for Detroit.”

The collection itself includes hoodies, hats and t-shirts with sayings like “World Changers Detroit”, “Let it Rip” and “Detroit Underdogs”, and are all under $60.

The collection is available for purchase at jg16.store and can be seen in action in episode four of Hard knocks: Training camp with the Detroit Lions on HBO.
