Lions 2021 pick Harris extends contract

British and Irish Lions midfielder Chris Harris has extended his contract in the Gloucester playoffs, with the Scottish player believing his future in the Gallagher Premiership is best served by staying at Kingsholm after a 2021/22 campaign of rich progress under George Skivington.

A club statement read: “Gloucester are delighted to confirm that Scottish international and British and Irish lion Chris Harris have extended his stay. Harris is an experienced international and his appearances on the British and Irish Lions tour to South Africa last summer show just how highly regarded he is in the rugby world.

“Harris joined Gloucester from Newcastle Falcons in the summer of 2019 and has gone from strength to strength each season, quickly establishing himself as a key member of the team. He is fast approaching 50 appearances for Gloucester and he has scored 25 points in the Cherry and White jersey so far.

After announcing the names of the three players who will be leaving Gloucester next season, Skivington said: “Chris is one of those players who is instrumental in who we are here at Gloucester. He works hard and has become the one of the main leaders of the team.

“Whether attacking or defending, he always leads by example and is a real pinch of world-class talent in the squad here at Kingsholm.”

COO Alex Brown added: “Chris is a highly regarded and experienced international and we are delighted that he is staying here at Kingsholm. He fits perfectly with Gloucester’s philosophy and it’s a real pleasure to have him in the team. I’m glad he wants to continue playing in Cherry and White.
