This is one of the Lions Club’s biggest fundraising events of the year, bringing in money for their designated charities.

The event sees thousands of little yellow ducks ‘held’ by members of the public racing along the River Sid, with cash prizes for 19 winners.

Also back this year is the Business Run, in which a few hundred red ducks are sponsored by local businesses for a minimum donation of £5.

The Duck Derby begins at 2:00 p.m. with children’s duck and spoon races on the lawn next to the Vista Cycle Bridge. Once the children have competed, their parents and grandparents are invited to try it out.

The Company Duck Race will begin at 2:45 p.m. when the Red Ducks are launched from the Cycle Bridge into the river.

The main duck race will start at 3 p.m. with several thousand little yellow ducks plunging into the river from the cycle bridge, to race to the finish at the foot of the large dam.

The “owners” of the first 19 yellow ducks will each receive a cash prize. First prize is £400, second prize is £100, third prize is £75, and there are six prizes of £40 and ten prizes of £20.

It is also possible to enter a grand prize draw to win one of many great prizes. Just £2 offers five chances to win. Tickets will be on sale at the Lions Ukraine stand in the Byes, but only on Duck Derby Sunday. The raffle is part of the club’s ongoing fundraising efforts to help with the Ukrainian refugee crisis.

Tickets £1 each for the Yellow Duck Race are available from the Sidmouth Lions stalls outside the Co-op and next to the Potburys store from 10am to 5pm, Tuesday to Saturday (except Saturday 10 September) and outside the Lidl store on Saturdays 10 and 17 September. Duck tickets can also be purchased at Paper Moon in Fore Street, Cards@83 in High Street and Woolbrook News.
