There’s still plenty of rugby to be played between now and the 2025 British and Irish Lions Australian tour, including the 2023 World Cup, but the conversation will start to grow over the weeks and months.

After the last Six Nations, many Irish players raised their hands as future Lions, and one of them was undoubtedly Hugo Keenan.

With Wales’ Liam Williams turning 34 on the upcoming tour and Scotland’s Stuart Hogg turning 33, there is no guarantee either will be selected by whoever the future Lions manager is. . That means there’s a race to grab that red No.15 jersey, and 25-year-old Keenan seems to be leading the way. England’s Freddie Steward has also thrown his hat in the ring this season and will only get better as the years go by which means this competition will be very compelling.

A recent highlight video shared by NJF Rugby showed what a Keenan player is and why he’s probably the favorite.

For now though, Ireland have a three-game run with the All Blacks to prepare for in July. Ahead of the tour, Ireland head coach Andy Farrell said “it’s huge”.

“This is the perfect opportunity the group needs.

“We talked over and over again about the lack of touring. It is priceless.

“It looks like we can take a bit bigger group, which is great because we probably had 37 guys in camp and probably five or six of them left injured.

“There are people who have already sniffled; some people who haven’t played but we want to see them under pressure.

“I guess going to New Zealand there won’t be any pressure like that, so it’s the perfect opportunity for us to find out more about ourselves.”
