NFC Ratings: Justin Fields, Bears, Lions, Vikings, Justin Jefferson

Bear HC Matt Eberflus says that Justin Fields already feels “very comfortable” in their offensive system, which is based on the west coast attack.

“I think he is in a good position” said Eberflus. “He has met the offensive staff and he feels very comfortable in this attack. This is a rhythm and timing violation. It is based on the West Coast system. It’s going to be very quarterback-friendly for him. That’s been quarterback friendly for a lot of guys in the past.

Eberflus believes their offense will help Fields figure out when to get the ball out and progress.

“You can see the way he’s trained, the pace and timing of it, of the passing game, is really going to help him understand when to get rid of the ball, what his progressions are. He’s going to have a clear understanding of what offense is. And he’s doing a really good job right now of understanding that and helping to teach that to other players as well.

As for their defence, Eberflus said they will focus on creating takeaways next season.

“That’s how we’re going to practice here with the Bears,” said Eberflus. “We’re going to do a great job of punching, hammering and raking every time. We are going to be fanatical about it and in turn it is going to help our attack to protect football because it goes hand in hand. If we strip down every play in defense, our offense must have excellent ball security.

the Lions

HC Lions Dan Campbell praised the passing game coordinator Ben Johnson after being promoted to tight ends coach.

“I think Ben is a rock star, man” Campbell said, via Tim Twentyman from the team’s official website. “He’s a young man, but he’s kind of come a little bit longer and harder to get to where he is. He’s been around some really good coaches, now, guys who’ve coached really good quarterbacks.

Campbell added that Johnson had the opportunity to learn from several coaches, including former NFL HC and OC Mike Sherman, OL Cowboys Coach Joe Philbinand former Jets HC Adam Gase.

“Just being with Mike Sherman when I was with him there (in Miami). Joe Philbin, who was with (Aaron) Rodgers. Then he’s with (Adam) Gase, who had (Peyton) Manning and those guys. He understands the quarterback game well. He was with Zac Taylor, who was with me in Miami. We were all together in Miami. So he understands it well.

Campbell continued his time alongside Johnson with the Dolphins and reiterated that the coach understands “The quarterback is playing very well.”

“Just in our time, when he was basically (quality control coach) in Miami, he understood the quarterback game very well,” Campbell said. “Even from there he had a good feel, but he was always a guy who was very attentive to the ins and outs of that position and the attack as a whole. And it was a sponge, man. He was constantly solving problems and asking questions.

Vikings WR Justin Jefferson commented on the future of his contract and where he is at this stage of his career, obviously hoping that he will be entitled to a big salary when the time comes.

“(I’m) excited for them and excited for what I have in store,” Jefferson said, via Chad Graff of The Athletic. “I just know some of the players that have been signed and I just know that I can still have some great years here with this team, so (I) definitely looked at that and kept an eye on that. I mean, I don’t haven’t waited since I came into the league. It’s all been from the start. … You just have to do your own thing and go your own way, go your own process when it comes to contracts.

“I have so many goals in reserve” Jefferson added. “I don’t really want to say my personal goals at the moment, but I’ve defined a lot of things that I have in store. I’m above rookie year, I’m above second year, it’s on year 3 now. There’s a target on my back at this point. I plan to keep going up. They’re always going to have players in the league who are going to try and stop me and what have we.
