MARYVILLE, Mo. — On a windy Saturday, the Easter Bunny was busy entertaining the kids and watching them collect eggs at Donaldson Westside Park during the 39th annual Maryville Host Lions Easter Egg Hunt.

Cold but sunny, hundreds of people turned out for the event organized by Host Lions and Hy-Vee members.

“It’s always cold,” Lion Larry Wickersham said.

He said that one year the event even had to deal with ice by depositing melting ice. Because of the rain some years, he said they had to give out candy in Hy-Vee, but now when it rains, they usually use the community center in Maryville, just because of the number of people there. assist.

“We always have a good turnout from volunteers,” Wickersham said. “It’s just a good community event.”

Hy-Vee Store Manager Nate Jaster said: “It works really well to have a place like this where two groups can work together and have an event for the community. … (It’s) easy for parents and all age groups can join in and have fun on a Saturday morning.”
