  • The Bulls added to their top-tier stocks by signing former Lions mainstay Dylan Smith.
  • Smith appeared in two Super Rugby finals for the Lions during his time in Johannesburg before leaving last year.
  • The man nicknamed “Bulldog” reinforces their already stacked loose side, leaving them still light-headed.

The Bulls have acquired the services of former Lions rower Dylan Smith, the franchise announced Monday.

The 28-year-old loose head joins the Pretoria side on a three-year deal, bringing with him the experience of playing in two Super Rugby finals at the Lions and in France as a medical joker with the Stade Français Top 14 .

“To be able to secure the services of a quality first rower like Dylan Smith is huge for us at the Bulls,” Bulls director of rugby Jake White said in a press release.

“Dylan is arguably one of South Africa’s most talented stalwarts. We have no doubt that he will contribute massively to the Bulls’ ambitions to continue to grow into one of the most competitive teams in the world. We We can’t wait to welcome him to Loftus. Versfeld and see him in the blue sweater.”

The Bulls have, however, strengthened the scrum side where they are already filled with talents such as Gerhard Steenekamp, Lizo Gqoboka and Simphiwe Matanzima.

After the departure of Springbok Trevor Nyakane to France last year, they are lighter on the tight headers side.
